An Unusual Term for us Lay folks.

Faithful Traitor  -   In translating from one language to a second language, one has to "hand over"  information of one culture to a second culture. Since no two culture's languages are fully synchronized, the translator hopes he or she can be faithful in "trading" this information to the second culture's readers. 

 That was the goal of these RSV translators at Yale University during 1937 -1952.  Many Ancient manuscripts of Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek were faithfully traded to the American English Language of the mid 20th  century.
