"Yom Kippur Special,
Jonah"
Pre-Commentary by Gilbert Alphin
PAGE DOWN
It has been over a year since September 11, 2001. As a Christian, I found this Jewish
program enriching.
Jonah 4:11:
And should not I (God) pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are
more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand
from their left, and also much cattle?"
Like Ancient Nineveh, New York, Washington DC and all other towns of the
world, God offers his mercy to all! In fact Jonah 3:10 make a reference on
how "God repented"
(KJV, RSV ASB) from the evil he had planned since
Nineveite citizens repented from their sins!
Other translation quote ' relented,
abandon or "changed his mind".
Rediscover and enjoy your
own interpretation
of this famous short book of the
Bible by re-reading in the post 911 era
. Can one apply this short Book to Just
wars, Capital punishment and other modern day Issues? Compare several study Bibles and see
how many ways this book is illuminated.

Program 737: Week of September
15, 2002
Every year on Yom Kippur, Jews read aloud the famous story of a man [running
from God who is] swallowed by a whale. Join Ellen Kushner for a closer look at
the Book of Jonah, with the help of artists as diverse as comedian Lord Buckley
and composer Alan Hovhaness, as she explores the music and meaning of the
Biblical tale, and consider the implications of ignoring responsibility and
one's inner voice.
